Pink Sweat$ Volume 2 is Ear Candy

If there are two things that Pink Sweat$ can be counted on for they are beautiful vocals and soul, and on his new EP Volume 2 those qualities are found and more. The Philadelphia native gained notoriety in 2018 after the single “Honesty” from his Volume 1 EP began to chart and peaked at number four on Spotify charts, and with his latest release he is diversifying his sound while consistently providing his signature voice.

Volume 2 is only five tracks long, but a lot gets done in those five songs. The first song “I Know” immediately introduces the listener to a different Pink Sweat$ with a southern rock/country acoustic guitar melody that sounds more like a Chris Stapleton song, but the simplicity of the song opens up space for bluesy & passionate vocals that make the listener feel what he is singing. The following two songs are called “Coke & Henny, Pt.1″ &”Coke & Henny, Pt.2” and though they share a name they bring very different dynamics to the project. Part 1 continues the trend of an acoustic guitar melody and it definitely carries a Southern-Bluesy sound as well, and only some light percussion is added to keep that space for Pink Sweat$ and his voice. Part 2 transitions into a catchy breakup song and is definitely a standout on the project, with a sound that classifies more as R&B or Pop, which is classic Pink Sweat$. Coke & Henny, Pt.2 definitely gives off a spacey vibe to compliment a building chorus that turns into a definite sing-along, why I think the song will be a hit.

The astounding message throughout Volume 2 is that it is a breakup listen, and that emotion is captured best on the last two songs, called “Your Side” and “Body Ain’t Me”. On the first of the two, the familiar feeling of loneliness is preached over an uptempo acoustic beat, highlighted in the chorus with the lyrics “Stuck starin’ at your side of the bed”, which brings the relatability way up for anyone who’s been in a similar position.

The final song of the project and my personal favourite is called “Body Ain”t Me”, which captures the essence of Pink Sweat$ to a tee. Rhythmic is the best word to describe the track as every verse and chorus is melodic and transitional, and Pink closes out the content of the EP by sharing his feelings of confusion and absence, accentuated by lyrics like; “tryna get my love back but it’s harder now” and “I don’t want nobody on you, if that body ain’t me.”

Overall, Pink Sweat$ Volume 2 tells a story. The story is one of recent heartbreak and with the amount of passion he puts into his words and his voice it makes it a connecting listen for anyone. The other great piece to see was Pink’s growth as the variety of cross-genre sounds found in the EP makes his work more and more diverse and lets us fans look forward to new work to come from Pink Sweat$. This bumped right in the feels.
