Canadian Duo Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine Establish their Sound on Debut 8:47
The successful contestants of talent shows, such as The Voice or American Idol, will usually find success in traditional markets like Pop and Country, but for The Launch episode 1 winner Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine, success is found by making the genre-blurring music they want. “8:47” is the group’s first full release with Big Machine Records, who let the duo pursue their creativity and define their sound while making some hits along the way.
Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine have a sound that is completely honest to their skill set. The use of Elijah’s strong production abilities that stretch from standard acoustic instruments to Electronic Dance Music(EDM) and Jamie’s diverse & passionate vocals that showcase everything from a Capella to rap flows, combined with the pop music expertise of Big Machine Records creates a sound that fuses Pop, Soul, R&B, EDM, and more.

The first two tracks of 8:47, “Humming” and “You”, set the emotional tone for the album by discussing personal turmoils with passionate vocals, over acoustic and electric guitar mixed with Trance synths and dubbed vocals to create a passionate energy that was sustained for the rest of the project.
The Ontario duo’s sound definitely sets up well for radio play with songs like “You”, “Love Strong” and “Problem” with songs aligning more with pop-rock with a range of EDM elements, which is nearly a standard in modern pop music. The concept that I personally enjoyed was their ability to open up their creativity a bit more with more consistently EDM tracks “Better Off”, “Easy” and Trap infused “Meditate”, which created an unpredictability after first listening to 8:47 because it seems like they’re capable of making any kind of song they’d like.
The final song of the album “8:47 – Outro” encompasses Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine’s capabilities as it starts out by sounding almost like a Chromeo song, then it suddenly, yet smoothly transitioned into the pair of soft & echoic keys with an intimate and raw vocal that concluded the listen with a lot of engagementAll in all 8:47 is a great multi-genre listen with great passion that can accommodate and relate to many. Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine represent Canada well and you can look forward to more music from them soon.
