Tyla Yaweh Defines His Sound on Debut Album Heart Full of Rage

Tyla Yaweh pushes the boundaries of Hip Hop and R&B on his new 10-track release Heart Full of Rage. The Orlando-based artist and signee of Epic Records/London Entertainment is a talented vocalist that I would compare to Swae Lee with more range and more of a rock music orientation, and he uses this uniqueness to bring a sound that impresses throughout the album.

Tyla Yaweh defines his sound in the Hip Hop/R&B lane by drawing inspiration from a scarcely heard genre in urban music, Grunge. The frequent utilization of distorted, echoic electric guitar chords and melodies that defined the 90’s rock sound create an intense mood for Tyla to unleash an array of flows and catchy hooks, and with 808’s and trap drums running in unison, the energy is brought even higher. The most prime examples of this Grunge-inspired sound are found on “High Right Now”, “Novacane”, and “Chiquita”. The use of the guitar does not end with the Grunge sound on Heart Full of Rage as the final two tracks, “They Ain’t You” and “Ain’t What It Seems” use the acoustic guitar to open up space for passionate Tyla Yaweh vocal displays, with lyrics that deal with personal traumas and the realities of his new life. The rock and acoustic influence is not surprising as Yaweh’s label, London Entertainment, is ran by Post Malone’s manager Dre London, and Yaweh has frequently praised Post for assisting him.

Beyond the guitar-oriented tracks on the album, more traditional Hip Hop songs appear to show Tyla Yaweh’s versatility, and to host some reputable features, including the French Montana assisted “Salute”. The song that is currently garnering a lot of attention from the project is “Gemini”, a spacey hi-hat & bass-driven beat that lets Tyla sing about the ups and downs of his relationship and the classic Gemini characteristics held within his partner. The other feature on the album belongs to PnB Rock on the track “Wraith Skating” and the kids would categorize this one as a banger. Yaweh flourishes on the song with transitional & catchy verses that utilize his full vocal range, and PnB’s vocal tone sets up and matches the energy of the drop perfectly, for a definite standout on the album.

Overall, Heart Full of Rage is an incredible showcase for Tyla Yaweh as he uses his uniqueness and versatility to consistently make good songs, on an album that personally kept me coming back for more. Tyla used this project to define his position in the rock-influenced Hip-Hop/Trap lane with the likes of Trippie Redd and Juice WRLD, while maintaining an identifiable sound. As Yaweh is still touring with Post Malone, you can most likely look forward to new music once that ends, and you should look forward to it because this one really bumped.

Highlighted Tracks: “Wraith Skating(ft. PnB Rock)”, “Chiquita”, “Adderall”, “Ain’t What It Seems”

P.S. shout out to my friend Alliyah for putting me on to this album !!
